flower crown

flower crown

Before we went through the last long, white winter, it was a fairly dreary fall. During one of those periods of grey weather and cold rain I indulged an urge for brightness and made a couple of flower crowns. Packed away in the stash was quite a range of beautiful faux flowers. Most were bought years before, when I was just starting to do the floral masks and are of a quality that I haven’t been able to find anymore. It was so much fun to sort them out into colour groups and put them together. Both ended up being ridiculously lush, but that makes them even more fun to wear. I confess that this one is my favourite of the two, but a chunk of that is the colour scheme. (and I love the peony and the two large lilies) I keep being tempted to paint a pair of very-realistic-but-fake deer horns I have in the dark charcoal black and add them, just to run with the whole Hannibal vibe I think it turned out to have. (which isn’t surprising since I’d burned through the accumulated season on the dvr, not long before doing it)

End of an Era

We just found out that Jonny Kalisch, of Jonny’s Antiques died on Saturday. We knew he wasn’t well, so it wasn’t as much of a shock as his partner James passing last year, but it’s still sad news. Jonny was always so passionate about Shakespeare and worked hard at getting people organized in the fight against the road expansion. I always enjoyed it when he’d stop by for a visit, (and if those were more frequent when the black currants and raspberries were ripe, I’m sure that was just co-incidence ) or chatting with him at his store. He will be missed.

CTV did a piece about him and how much of a loss his passing is to the Antiques community in Canada.

Spring!

I have, once again, gotten caught up in a busy winter of framing and other projects.  Two winters of heavy snows and late springs has been a trial, but it is at least starting to look a bit like spring! We haven’t really gotten started on the garden work yet and I’m still trying to get the spring store reorganization done, but there are a few more works-in-progress to get finished before I’ll be able to complete sprucing the place up for the season. While I’m staying with “by appointment” for the hours right now, I am around the shop most of the time on Tuesday to Sunday but may have to run off for various things so it’s always a good idea to drop me a note if you’re thinking about stopping in.IMG_6486
