Considering that winter has finally settled in, it’s time for me to get a bit of a vacation.

I’ll be away until the end of February. It will still be possible to stop in to view the shop, but you’ll need to call ahead to make an appointment ( 226 648 0055) and I won’t be around to take any framing consultations. Both the Artfire and Etsy shops will also be closed. See you in March!

one ring

In among the large batch of antique watch and clock parts that we scored a while ago,

there were also some small tins filled with Victorian and Edwardian jewellery components and broken bits. It seemed like the various people who owned the jewellery and watch store it all came out of, never threw anything out in the 100+ years it was open. Considering the sheer volume of all the bits and bobs, and all the other things to be done, it’s only recently that I’ve been able to go back and start going through with an eye to what I can use in the near future. While I was sorting through one of the tins, for cufflink fittings that will fit modern cuffs, I found a small scrap of chain. It was short, but an interesting design. Instead of a link being an oval, each one is a small cage. I loved the look of it, but was really limited in it’s use by the short length. It was also clear, both from it’s weight and quality of manufacture, that it was made of at least a mid range karat gold. What I quickly realized was that it was just the right length to wear as a ring, and it conveniently, had a jump ring on one end! It was simple to close it to a loop and I am very pleased at how it works as a ring. The texture and warm gleam of it’s gold look rich and luxurious but it’s comfortable to wear and doesn’t catch or snag on anything. This is one piece I’m keeping for myself, considering how rare it is to find a ring that suits my needs so well! (and it’s not as if another one is likely to come my way)
